Wrath is rising
posted October 09, 2011
Here is a work-in-progress concept for one of our 7 Sins characters: Wrath.
There is still some work to be done on this one, mainly on the head.
Wrath will be posed as a warrior running at full charge, swinging his axe.
This version is the Male SciFi version.
There will also be a Fantasy version.
Both SF and Fantasy versions will be available as Heroic (that is, human size) and Legendary (that is, large demon size). This means that you'll be able to choose your Wrath mini as a Hero for one of your unit, or as a big Demon towering on the battlefield. The demon version will come with a set of wings.
Which one would you go for? Heroic? Legendary? Both?
Female Wrath anyone?
Some of you as expressed some interest for a female version of Wrath, as a Fantasy model. But would you be interested in a female SciFi version?
6 other Sins
We'll post other concept of the other Sins characters in the next few days.
In the meantime, you can find Envy and Gluttony in the French magazine Ravage.
You can also see Lust here.
Feedback wanted
As always we are most interested in your feedback, especially on the various versions you would like for these characters.
Please don't hesitate to comment on this post or on the other posts in our blog.

This is a great concept indeed. Personally, however, I would like to see:
- A more generic version, one that can be used both in let’s say Chaos Marines armies and Loyalist (but more brutal, like Fesh Tearers) Marines. That would mean less “demoninc” elements on the armour, but keeping the skulls.
- Also I find the axe a bit to “Khorne” like. Probably a more generic design might work better.
- And what I would love to see is a serrated rapier as a weapon. Not chain-weapon.
-Then three heads would also be great: One bare screaming scarred head, one Chaosy helmeted and a brutal non-chaosy industrial one.
- Finally, a supersized version of the Kapitan Ivanka Kurganova’ s firearm would make a fitting addition.
Once again congratulations for the stunning job guys!

Like the weapon, but i’d also like to see a more…. normal chioces. Axe is an obvious one, but the one youve got there covers that role.
A broad sword could be nice, as could a two handed halberd, ready to be swung.
i’d like to see a spiked mace, maaybe with a chain in the othe hand

love it. As for fantasy/ sci-fi parts.
I would like to suggest 3 heads. just some suggestions. A helmetted head, with deamonic visage.
A Deamonic head.
A a more human head. maybe all scared and cut up.
Love the work

I’d be very intereseted to see what you come up with for a female fantasy version on Wrath as the male could already have been sort of done with the Kahn Urkan. I don’t know how to get hold of the French magazine ravage so I hope you’ll be posting pictures of all the sins very soon on here.
Thanks

Since I am seeing two concept arts are already out, I will give my opinion to them:
Wrath:
I didn’t like that from the first view. I know wrath “roah, roah, smashing, killing, burping” but.. that’s such a demon is looking way to clichè. I can’t see coming buying that in a thousand years because it’s just too forseeable. I think something different as another monster would be nice.
I mean, we talk about the Sins here, the personification and that doesn’t mean they have to do what they are. Imagine the devil. Of course there are pictures whith horns and all that but on the same time we have so many other interpretations today which are showing him as a normal human being, as a playboy or as a lawyer.
If you’re not going to make a female fantasy version, I hope a SciFi version is a little bit more creative.
To me a figurine in the style Frank Frazett would be more appealing, a barbarian like Conan or Sonya and even this would be very clichè but I think it would way more interesting.
Lust:
Same here. Jeah there is a guy holding a women to rape here sigh as that’s the only possibility that would came to mind. I know, many would have made just a sexy woman but still, the image is somehow looking wrong, as if males are so dominant. Isn’t it the reverse, that guys were afraid of dominant females for ages? Looking at roman history women had good positions but still, people were afraid when they started to be the controller.
I imagine here more possibilites and maybe lust didn’t even have to be brutal.

Just to add to the feedback on the female version Y/N question:
I for one would like an all-female, sci-fi Sins set.
I’m kind of neutral on the Fantasy versions as my gaming interest is solely in the sci-fi realm,
but I’d certainly consider any female fantasy Sins to add to the painting collection.
So basically, female versions Y/N? Yes, pretty please. :)

Please do scifi fantasy male and female characters of all your deadly sins. Your entire line of models is beautiful and I know that these will be no different. Keep up the great work!

This one looks cool … a bit khornate and like a “terminator” but this is still fine ;-)
If you go for female alternatives – beginn with the obvouisous – Lust – an spare us the gluttony ;-)

I love the concepts sofar! Especially “Lust” is kind of the consequent evolution of the thought that is behind the obvious equivalent.
And do you really ask if people would like to see a female version of the Sins? I took it for a retorical question, but to answer it:
YES PLEASE!

Whilst I really like this model, there are 2 things I would change.
Firstly I think the greaves (lower leg armour) is too long, it’s virtually touching the ground.
Secondly, I know this model is probably supposed to be just for a sci fi range, but it’s so close that for very little work you could sell it to fantasy players as well.
I suppose all you’d need to do is have the connectors between armour (hips, behind knees, elbows)as bare flesh rather than the typical ‘tubing’ you see on space marines for example.
Secondly, if you joined the area around the collar with the head and made that as an optional piece, you could make an alternative part with chainmail (or flesh) around the neck and a regular fantasy hero head.

This doesn’t do it for me at all. It just looks like a random terminator of khorne, which has been done way too many times.
Wrath is more than battle-rage. I would like to see wrath as a scrawny warrior, one that doesn’t lok like he can fight, that gets beat down constantly and each time he gets angrier over his own lack of capability. Maybe a bully that only fights those who are a lot weaker than himself, like women, children, old people and small animals.
Or a warrior that drags something heavy – making it impossible for him to run – forcing him to walk slowly toward the enemy, making him angry as h€ll.
I imagine a helmet less head where the warrior has damaged himself in his anger. Maybe chewn his lips/tongue off, scratched deep wounds into his cheeks or torn one/two eyes out.
So yeah, think of things that make one really angry: being belittled, losing, having something just out of reach, frustration. More the wrath of the common man taken form than just another angry warrior.
Good luck with the project!

Sorry for the double post but I forgot to comment on the weapon. I would prefer to see the option of adding two single handed weapons.. and those would preferrably be something that requires you to be extremely close to use like Katars or punch-daggers..maybe bladed knuckle-dusters.. (think Bors from the King Arthur movie)

I don’t really care for the “Skulls for the Skull Throne” et al. To me, Wrath doesn’t need extra details to make him scary.. he needs to look like a warrior who is so furious that he really doesn’t have time for collecting trophies.. his anger is so complete that he will utterly annihilate all of his opponents… and he doesn’t need armor to do it for that matter! Think of Frazetta’s Conan.. The look of confidence, determination, and attitude goes a lot further than some skulls and spikes in my book. A warrior whose ethos doesn’t involve adorning himself/herself in trophies..there’s no need for it.. simply the joy of battle alone is enough.

Female figures are always better as GW does so many male, we need more female :-)

Agree with the GW-resemblance here, also and especially with the pipe coming from the ax-head. Don’t give them any fodder!
Weapon: How about a dual-sided weapon wielded by that big demon dude from Warcraft3 that Thrall and Hellscream mess up? Similar in concept to Maul’s dual sabre, but chunky!
Silhouette: Too demon prince with the bell-bottom look and power-claw, or wha’eva its called. Ever played Darksiders? Some cool sci-fi-mix-fantasy stuff in there.
Sorry, very critical, but hope it helps.

I agree with the idea of both a male and female aspect, but I can’t say the “armored juggernaut” look is all that appealing to me. That and it does have too much similarity to the GW Space Marine stuff….
I’d go with a different approach. Have Wrath be completely unarmored… or in the tattered remains of armor. With scars… lots and lots of scars.I like the idea that Wrath is going to seek out his/her opponents despite having been in countless epic battles that have left him (or her) wounded, bloody and beaten…. but never… ever.. defeated. Make him/her the unstoppable personification of out-of-control anger.
Think “Rambo”…. he/she is just plain NOT going to stop coming no matter what gets thrown at him… and when he catches you, watch out. Maybe…. instead of loads of armor, Wrath collects weapons… the more the better to kill all who get in his way. Give him one main weapon, mean, dirty and totally deadly looking, but also have two or three daggers or knives tucked here and there, maybe a weapon or two sheathed on his back or tucked through a tattered sash.

I think I would probably pic up the legendary sci fi, cause I love the miniature, and I would probably get the Heroic Fantasy to paint up with the 7 other deadly sins in a diorama.

Ok first off it looks nicely detailed, but a bit too much like a chaos terminator from warhammer 40k. I want a female fantasy version, but don’t have as much armor. Wrath needs to appear easily mobile. Fast and furious!

Would be very interested in a female Wrath, prob more than a male version.

No wrath like a woman scorned…
Enough said.

I love SciFi model! Male and female too!
Maeby some “sin” can be only female… Some fire weapon?

Looking very cool so far. I’m assuming that options will be included for at least a sword in place of the axe (possibly a two-handed swing and another set of arms single-handed/ dual wielding?)
With regards to female versions of the Sins, that would be very interesting to see, especially in both Fantasy & SF flavours. Not knowing how you are planning things I’d probably have an initial release of each Sin, mixed male & female, across SF & Fantasy and then do a ‘switched’ release, so that the sexes are reversed (say 4 male & 3 female, then followed by 4 female & 4 male)

Berserker lookalike, be careful, Games Workshop might not like that, also, axe is definitely not looking like something I’d see Wrath with, cause this one looks more like a “spanking paddle” than an axe, also, “spearhead” behind the head is well, too weird, nice idea for a warrior that wants to avoid being beheaded from behind but too weird here
