The Dirty SEVEN

posted September 17, 2011

Sometimes, bad is not enough…
Sometimes, you need something that truly embodies evil.

That's why we are starting the 7 Deadly Sins collection:
Seven mean and striking characters who embody the worst traits of the human soul.
And yes, you can count on them to burn, to rape and to rampage, well, to make war in the good old evil way.

Above are two of the early designs we've just done for Lust.

So what can we tell you about these despicable guys?
They will be seven knights of Evil, in full armor and heavily armed.
They will come in Fantasy and Sci-Fi versions.
They will come in Heroic and Legendary Sizes so that you can use them as human-sized heroes or as large size Demons.
They'll personalize Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Pride, Greed, Sloth and Envy.

We are still in a design phase on this project and we will be very happy to incorporate your ideas and suggestions in the sculpts. Would you like some of them to be female characters? Do you already know how you would use them? What kind of designs or ideas or visions would you have for Wrath, Sloth or Gluttony? Let us know.

  • Ah, almost forgot… It seems like you’re not finishing hands, on Asharah and those banner bearer slaves of her, fingers are too short. Please do longer fingers may be with long nails for sins.

  • I wounder how many of those commenters will buy anything at all… I will definitely buy as soon as they will show up:
    - male heroic sci-fi lust
    - male legendary sci-fi lust
    - male heoric sci-fi wrath
    - male legendary sci-fi wrath
    - male heroic fantasy wrath
    - female heroic fantasy wrath
    - female heroic fantasy lust

Of course I will buy all of your models if I’d like them, but those are most important for me.

The only thing, please make them bigger. Asharah is tiny and that’s OK for her (for all female models), but Kahn on Manticore is so tiny, he is smaller than slaves, I can’t field him as a general or hero of my norsemen army… Please do male models proper 32mm, like Enigma miniatures. They are full head higher then other miniatures, but for lords it is just right.

Also, please give us some rough estimations when they will be available. It will help to save proper pile of money ;)

PS: oh, and wrath == ax, so please add ax as a weapon option for all wrath models, both sci-fi and fantasy.

  • For the fantasy version, keep the same helmet, just remove the vents and wires, and replace the vents with a more medieval version. I like the sci-fi version better as far as the armor goes, but I’m trying to get more fantasy stuff, so just remove all the technological parts and then you’re good.

  • Would love to see female versions of everyone of it – definitly. 2 Fems, 5 Mals? No sorry, it’s so annoying to have still this strange 1:4 ratio if it comes to woman and man. Also, I think it would be interesting to see how it comes out.

I totally agree that it shouldn’t so stereotyped and more creative. And Fem+Mal+SF version is delivering so much room that not every figurine have to be like that.

But however, I like female characters over male characters and want to see if possible a 1:1 ratio if you’re making just Fantasy SciFi, so 7 males and 7 females.
In the end, 7 Sins are a great idea I definitly support. I am so looking forward to see the outcoming.

  • Oh… and Lust, regardless of version, needs a “sex slave”…. Just sayin’… sick notion, but one that would send this idea over-the-top for certain.

Think a slavegirl in Shibari rope bindings or slaveboy to tote around extra weapons and goodies. Yep… with a dog collar and leash.

  • Clearly a male and female version of each is needed!

  • Definately want some smoking female sculpts that could be used in a vampire counts army as, for example Lahmian vampires. :)

  • Great idea and I am going to leave the design in your brilliant hands. You have not dissapointed me yet and almost any design I did not like in the past initially grew on me to the point I find them your stongest designs (Which is sometimes the way for the most impactful pieces of art)

I would like to know where “Nick” gets his information for the following statement "I really like the idea, that you give them fantasy AND scifi options but keep always back in mind that less of 10% of all tabletop gamers are playing scifi..
    "

Wow I think that is quite a stretch considering that Warhammer 40K is the biggest selling tabletop wargame on the planet for the last 10+ years. People may not like it but you cant refute it. The proof of the dominance of sales in the market (Mind you I only said sales, not design concept, quality and such) can be found in there last finacial report and past can be found here http://investor.games-workshop.com/

  • I would love to see non-stereotypical models in these. Wrath for example, doesn’t need to be covered in flamey-spikey do-dads. An intense figure that’s properly posed could have more impact. By doing this you also allow Avarice(greed) to be lavishly detailed, and by way of contrast, he will stand out more for what he or she is. Pride would be perfect as what we would normally view as just and prudent.. only so hardline that their beliefs, which were originally pure, have driven them into a very evil state..similar to what our world saw of the Inquisition and Witch Trials. Sloth to me would be (as was mentioned) extremely heavily armored, possibly with a weapon so large it can barely be wielded and lots of chains and weights and the like. Envy should probably have his/her eyes wrapped and/or plated because the world around is too much to take in. Gluttony should have some girth, but also consider large teeth with exposed gums (that’s always super creepy).. maybe he sliced his cheeks to be able to open wider. Depending on how evil you’re talking about, he could be feasting on cherubs, kittens, whole birds, or other things and should probably have some tricked out eating utensil as his weapon (pitchfork or maybe a mancatcher for keeping prey subdued..and/or a net)

  • I will keep an interested eye on these. Oh and definitely do at least some if not a complete set of female versions. Just because GW can’t do female demons right doesn’t someone else can’t.

  • Some more thoughts in detail:
Think of what embodies the sin itself to get your inspiration.
I would make (2) female, (5) male characters. Females should be Wrath & Envy, the rest males.
Wrath needs to be a wild looking chaos warrior woman with (2) destructive weapons. She should not have a sword or axe but flails or mauls for unleashing her fury upon her foes. No quick deaths from Wrath! Literally pummels them to death which just fuels her rage.
Now Lust you would think to be a hot girl. But Lust is the insatiable desire for sex, that is a male trait. ;) A punishing and twisted warrior is needed. I like the concept, a whip is a very fitting weapon, flail could also work.
Gluttony should be a fat, gross, puss oozing monstrosity of a man. Not much else to say, pretty straightforward. :)
Sloth should be a huge, heavily armored chaos warrior. Since sloth is about being lazy, make him appear weighed down and slow-moving by the armor. Have him dragging a huge weapon so big it looks hard to lift, let alone swing.
Envy and Pride should be a pair, male and female. Pride is a man dressed in beautiful armor and robes with very elegant swords as weapons. The embodiment of a great self image! Envy would be the female version being an incredible beautiful woman dressed very well. Emphasizing her as the envy of all women!
Greed can be either male or female. But I prefer a male decked out in armor that literally looks like he is wearing his fortune. Unlike Pride and Envy who would look like they are well off, Greed shows it proudly. Gold chains and jewelry all over. Chests of gold strapped to his back. Armor is jewel encrusted. The weapons should be literally covered in jewels! Imagine a sword or axe with the hilt all jewels and the blade appearing to be made from raw diamonds! This guy carries his riches even into battle he’s so greedy.
Hope you like my ideas! Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

  • When i saw the early concept in the newsletter, i was instant fascinated by the idea of getting all of them in legendary for a new heroquest campain;) but i really hate the idea that some of them could be female-.-
demons and demon warriors should be male because female demons suck, like the slaanesh demons from GW…they are the reason why everyone preferes Khorne and Nurgle..really hope you create male ones, can´t buy an incomplete set of male sins:(
I really like the idea, that you give them fantasy AND scifi options but keep always back in mind that less of 10% of all tabletop gamers are playing scifi..
look at your number of sales, fantasy sells a hundred times better than scifi.
I truly love the minis of raging heroes,so please don´t break your neck on scifi, this will always be hard to sell.

  • I love Bkumba’s idea of doing a male and a female set of each.

Posted by Grant on September 18, 2011

  • Definitely fantasy versions first…

Ahhh… and naturally this means that somewhere down the line you’ll need to do the “Seven Virtues” as well…Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Courage, Faith, Hope, and Charity. Gotta have some Heroes to face off against these Evil guys after-all…..

  • tell you what if you do the female verisons and mount them on horses so they look like chaos knights i think i am going to go broke

  • Very cool to get your feedback so quickly!! And great ideas too. Keep’em coming!

Strangely enough, this project has revealed itself to be tougher than first anticipated. There’s been lots of design work on it already, putting stuff in, taking stuff out, putting stuff back in, …

From this first feedback, it seems obvious you want some female characters. Is that as much for Fantasy as for SF?

Do keep sharing your feedback, we are listening!

  • Very awesome concept so far. Wrath should be a female. Heavily armored warrior decked out with different wicked looking weapons. Why a woman? We all know why. ;)
Gluttony is a big and far disgusting chaos warrior. Pride should be a regal, well dressed looking man in finery with elegant weapons. Sloth would be a big guy so heavily armored that it looks like he moves so slow because of the weight. And Envy should be ab incredibly beautiful woman the envy of all women. Lust is a brutal ravager who loves both pain and pleasure equally.

  • I wonder if Wrath is embodied in female form, would she be an ally of Asharah or give her a run for her money on the battlefield. I can see the 7 as twisted mortal avatars of vice and destruction and as demonic abominations. This is a can of worms Raging Heroes, you naughty people.

I’d love to see some serene armour and some crazy twisted freaks. From the beautiful to the perverse. Body modifications, scarification, piercings, stretched flesh on hooks to make pride’s face pretty. Envy could be utterly hideous, madness manifest in flesh and metal.

Timeless beings I can see exist in fantasy and the future.

  • Definitely there should be female versions! In fact… rather than doing both Fantasy and sci-fi versions first, do two different versions of each fantasy archetype of Sin in both a male and female design first.

Later… if you want, go ahead and do additional arms, heads and parts for each Fantasy version to allow them to be more Sci-fi if you swap them out. Might be easier than doing entirely new figures…. (and the parts are always great for we conversion freaks…)
