Siamese Dragon's early work in progress

posted July 30, 2011

Here are the first images of our evil dragon sculpt. Inspired by the ancient Caduceus and legends of two-headed snakes, this creature is a messenger of evil, a dark omen of ruin and destruction.

As you can see, the sculpt is far from being finished and so we would like to know how do you see this creature turns out.

Please read the notes on the images to get a better feel of what is still in the works and what is close to completion.

Also note that we will probably release a single-head version of this beast as well.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • WINGS!!! they are just too short. Look like leaves =S
It should have bigger and scarier wings, like the ones from the manticore ;D

    keep up the nice work!!

  • Like the pose but you have to do something about the legs! They appear small and out of scale compared to the wings and head. Make them have huge fearsome talons too!

  • When I heard you all were going to make a dragon, I had very high hopes. I love your manticore model. However, I can’t really say I like the concept. It’s a bit too busy and in my opinion a very similar silhouette to the Spirit of the Woods model you have.

To me it also appears, you may be waffling between an asian style dragon and the more typical fantasy type.

An example of a dragon, I think is the best available so far is the one by Heresy Miniatures.

as you can see, over 200 people are willing to pay £200.00 and wait over six months for it.

I’m not saying to copy it, but simplifying the style I think would be to your benefit.

now as far as the current model goes, as mentioned previously by others, the limbs are too small. The head could be bigger also and maybe a longer snout too. Maybe make the head wider also.

keep up the good work (but I’ll be hoping you make a more ’generic" dragon also, if you go through with this one).

    cheers

  • It’s not what I was expecting, its a bit strange but I do like your idea and what it represents. I was expecting the dragon to be atop a craggy rock, felled tree, or ruined outcrop – a decorative base like your last monster.

I like the option to have 1 or 2 heads as well, a nice touch.

Will look good when textured. Back legs could be a bit more muscular, slightly bigger, as I don’t think it could walk very well on such small limbs.

Is the tail going to be two tails twisting around each other? I think that would be fun.

Overall I like the silhouette of the beast, towering and imposing. I like the wings, they seem to claw at the sky and make it seem a malicious, unpredictable creature, beware. Fierce faces, they look so angry.

One head option, make it larger and retain that spiteful snarl.

Good concept, interesting so far, look forward to seeing what you decide to do next.

  • Fantastic so far. I love the shape of the wings, reminds me slightly of a maple leaf with the sharp points.

The head shapes are perfect. I’m curious about the neck though. It seems very fluid and protean, as if the flesh wasn’t quite solid yet. Is that intentional?

My final comment; add another head or two, drop the wings, and you have a damn fine hydra.

I’ve been looking for one for years, and every company seems to be in a race to the bottom for blockiest, ungainliest, most anatomically-dubious and stylistically-dull crap. I’d love to see your take on a hydra, especially after seeing this model.

  • Maybe a bit radical, but if you’re using the ‘siamese’ annotation, why not loose the wings and make it more chinese in style?

  • His head looks too devided for me,like the one from GW-.-
Please give him two outstanding demonic Dragonheads in the same style as they are, instead of 2 half ones.
There´s a second thing, please dont let him fly or something.
The reason why i hate the beasts of GW,is not how they look,it´s their pose…
they always look like they are going to jump off or running fast-.-
To let a beast look dangerous,it needs to stand on all 4s,like its going to attack any moment, like your Manticore impressively shows^^
Please do it like this way forever;)
Flying, jumping and heavy twisted creatures were only sold because you can´t buy them in nice poses…

  • looks really cool guys. one thing you migth consider though is to use the double tail to make a better " stand " to distribute the wieght of the piece better so it does not fall over too easily. Teh way teh wings spread out means that it will nto take very much for this to be knocked over even if the figure is well pinned in to a heavy base.

  • Some things I would prefer:
    Less wrinkles on the necks.
    Broader wings.
    One single, more detailed tail.
Larger\sturdier legs. They look small compared to the heads.

I do like the level of details on the heads:)

  • I like the potential on show here.
Have you considered this: A somewhat ‘middle of the road’ dragon’s torso, then the twin heads look suitably evil whilst perhaps making the single head more heroic?
