All hail the Lord Vampire!

posted December 31, 2009

For your eyes only, here is the latest image of our next miniature. It is a huge Lord Vampire who, like Asharah, will also be usable as a Dark Elf War Lord or as a Demon Lord. It will be available in both 28 and 54 mm.

This mini will be very large, but that’s not all: it has been designed so that the 54 mm version can be used in 28 mm armies as a huge Demon, a Dark Elf God, or a War God.

To develop this concept, we teamed up with Bertand Benoit, concept artist and illustrator for Helldorado, McVey Miniatures, Mortebrume, Alkemy, etc.

This collaboration has been a joy, and other projects are already in the works with Bertrand…

Here are two views of his drawing:

Vampire Lord 1

Vampire Lord 2

This character is the first in our new series Gods of War. The Gods of War series is designed to provide you with exceptionally large 28 mm heroes to lead your armies. And in most cases, the 54 mm version will also be designed to serve as a God or a giant creature in your 28 mm armies.

In the coming weeks, we will share with you a behind-the-scene look at this project, with new images featuring the Dark Elf and Demon alternative versions. The sculpting of this monster will begin early next week and, for those in a hurry, will be available for pre-order as soon as it’s done.

  • This guy looks amazing! I can’t wait to see the Dark Elf version! If the 54mm is as good as I’m hoping it is, I’ll definitely be getting one as a war shrine for my army.

  • To answer your query: this mini will have head and accessories to enable him to be either a Vampire, a Chaos Demon or a Dark Elf. So: 3 heads for sure, accessories still being determined.

  • NICE! :D

Is that fire coming off the tops of the wings?

  • To answer about the fire:

No, not quite, although fire is part of the theme. His armour is a stylized representation of Hell, with flames and the souls he ate…

If you have ideas for this character, let us know, as we’re working on it right now!

  • Ideas for the character? Well, I do have a couple questions.

In the concept art it shows the wings taller than the character. Will you be shortening the height of the character to make this possible, or will he be full size and then just have huge wings coming up above him? I’d love to see a full-size character with huge wings, but I’d be worried that much model would be prohibitively expensive and have severe issues with transportation.

I’m assuming the wings would be made of resin rather than the white metal, and as a separate pieces. Would it be possible to mold them pre-drilled for pinning? A figure as large as I’m imagining this one would be in 54mm format would take up a ton of room in any transport box and detachable wings would greatly ease this issue. With pre-made holes in the wings and shoulders it would be easier to pin it and a couple small magnets at contact points would keep them in place during play. Of course, pre-drilled holes in the shoulder could make people who didn’t want to model the character with wings a little upset having holes in him…

  • Your remark concerning transportation is right on the mark. However, it’s looking like we’re into large characters with huge wings and the likes. In most cases, for such large pieces, we will use resin for the wings and other large parts. Of course, we’ve been thinking about magnets, but I’m not sure if the wings attachments on the back of the character will be big enough to make this feasible. It will be tested, though. We do have a very skilled foundry master however, and I’m sure he will, as usual, have some suggestions to solve this dilemma.

By the way, regarding the size of the wings compared to the character, they will indeed be much bigger than the character itself.
